Salbutamol is a bronchodilator medicine used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients with obstructive airway disease. It belongs to the class of drugs known as selective beta2-adrenergic receptor agonists.
Salbutamol is used to treat COPD by relaxing the muscles in the airways and increasing airflow to the lungs. It may be used in adults with asthma or COPD with other respiratory disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD-COP). It is also used to treat symptoms of bronchospasm in patients with COPD who have not responded to a short-acting beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist (SABA) in other parts of the body.
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using Ventolin and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
You should swallow the prescribed dose of Ventolin by mouth with a glass of water or other liquid and not exceed the recommended dose. If you have trouble swallowing the prescribed dose, use only as directed. Do not use Ventolin if you are allergic to it, or if your asthma has been treated with it for a long time.
